  • Human Resources (HR) Committee

Attendance at the ASA Human Resources Committee is open to ASA Principal and Commercial members and provides an opportunity for member companies to liaise as a group to discuss various issues that have occurred over the past quarter.  These meetings offer participants the opportunity to connect with others that share a similar focus within their respective organisations.  The HR Committee provides an excellent opportunity for networking and problem-solving.

The HR Committee provides an insight into what is best practice within the maritime industry in the field of human resources and enables the development of strategic plans and projects.

Twice annually the Committee hosts a liaison meeting with the Australian Maritime Safety Authority (AMSA) to consider issues where AMSA has responsibility such as certification, standards, foreign ticket recognition, medical inspection, OH&S etc.

  • Environment Panel

The ASA Environment Panel was established with the vision that this group would operate slightly differently than the other ASA committees.  In particular, the ASA Environment Panel would be focused on the longer term and be highly strategic.

The ASA Environment Panel was formed to develop and promote environmental initiatives within the industry, to keep ASA members ahead of emerging environmental issues, to create an open dialogue with environmental non-government organisations and to provide guidance to the secretariat on the strategic direction of the Association on environmental public relations issues.

The ASA Environment Panel is directed by the following mission statement:

To promote shipping industry environmental awareness and responsibility.

Through the Panel, ASA members aim to address existing environmental impacts of the shipping industry, continually improve environmental performance and work towards the ultimate goal of the elimination of ship sourced emissions in the future.

  • Industry Safety Forum

The ASA Industry Safety Forum provides members with an opportunity to benchmark their performance in the areas of safety and environmental protection against other industry participants on a six-monthly confidential basis.  Data on compliance and deficiency rates, lost time injuries, near misses and other incidents as deemed appropriate, is collected by the ASA secretariat and complied to compare between companies and track long-term industry performance trends over time.  During the forum participants are also encouraged to openly share learnings relating to incidents and near misses amongst the group.
