ASA is recognised as a leader in the promotion of sustainable ship operations.  ASA encourages member companies to take a proactive approach to environmental protection and works to assist the Australian shipping industry to achieve its sustainable objectives.

There is a strong research component to the work we do at ASA, covering such topics as marine pests and biofouling, air emissions and wildlife protection.  ASA produce regular fact sheets on these areas of importance which help educate the greater community on the progress being made by industry to protect our seas.

ASA believe that efforts of the secretariat and individual member company’s own environmental policies will see ASA members operate more efficiently, achieve a greater level of environmental protection, improve the public perception of the industry and stimulate, where appropriate, modal shift to sea transport.
