Industrial Relations
The ASA seeks to engage in activities in the industrial relations sphere that:
- Promote the interests of Australian shipowners and operators
- Promote increased competitiveness and quality of operations from a labour perspective
- Provide members with a focal contact point for industry wide industrial issues
- Encouraging policies that prevent unwarranted industrial disputation
- Influences HR policy and regulation in the industry
- Enables ASA members to access international regulators (International Maritime Organization and International Labour Organisation) and organisations (International Shipping Federation, International Maritime Employers’ Committee)
- Provides up to date information to operators covering a range of industrial relations issues
- Advises members in dealings with Fair Work Australia and other regulatory bodies
- Engages  in broader industry negotiations
