Awards

In 2010 State and Federal awards under went a ‘modernisation’ process which has reduced approximately 1500 State and Federal awards to 122 modern awards from 1 January 2010. The following awards are relevant to the maritime industry:

•  Dredging Industry Award 2010
• Marine Towage Award 2010
• Marine Tourism and Charter Vessels Award
• Maritime Offshore Oil and Gas Award 2010
• Port Authorities Award 2010
• Ports, Harbours and Enclosed Water Vessels Award 2010
• Stevedoring Industry Award 2010
• Seagoing Industry Award 2010

These awards provide the minimum terms and conditions for employees covered by these awards, although in Australia, generally, the market rate is higher than the minimum wage set out in the these awards. These awards also apply for the purposes of the “Better Off Overall Test” when enterprise agreements, negotiated between employers and the relevant unions, are entered into.
