Australian Shipowners Association celebrates 25 years

The Australian Shipowners Association (ASA) celebrated 25 years of service to the Australian Shipping Industry last Thursday 29 September 2011, at a gala dinner attended by senior industry and government representatives. The dinner was held after the Association’s successful SEA11 Conference.
The Hon Anthony Albanese, Minister for Infrastructure and Transport announced the Government’s policy on the future of Australian shipping in Sydney today.

Bi-partisan support for Shipping Policy called for

Since late 2008, the Government has been working on a package of measures to deliver bi-partisan recommendations including a review the Navigation Act 1912 to foster a viable coastal shipping industry.
In recognition of the unique contribution made by seafarers from all over the world to international seaborne trade, the world economy and our society as a whole, 25 June has been chosen as the annual Day of the Seafarer.
Australia is to host the 21st Asian Shipowners Forum (ASF) Annual General Meeting in May 2012. Following is the media release issued by the ASF from the 20th Annual General Meeting held in Bali, Indonesia on 23 - 25 May 2011.
Ms Teresa Hatch, ASA's Executive Director was presented with the 2010 Company of Master Mariners Outstanding Achievement Award at the Master Mariners Congress Dinner in Perth.
The piracy crisis in the Indian Ocean is worsening. To highlight the severity of the crisis the international shipping community has now resorted to placing adverts in the world's media and calling for action from governments.
Following the recent discussion at the International Chamber of Shipping (ICS) Executive Committee about acknowledging the use of private armed guards, the Committee has developed the attached press release.
