As well as providing general information, the course is tailored to meet the needs of participants to ensure they receive information and materials relevant to their specific sector.

The course is delivered several times a year by McGuire Consulting on behalf of the Australian Shipowners Association and is attended by a variety of organisations, many who repeatedly send new employees as part of their job orientation.

Topics covered include:

  • Trade and the need for ships
  • Ship types, including cargo and port operations
  • Ship terminology
  • The business of shipping
  • Shipboard operations
  • Shipping industry rules and regulations

Course delivery is based on and driven by the following key components:

  • practically-oriented with real-life case studies
  • delivered by someone who has worked on and managed ships
  • presented via a multi-media presentation, backed up with extensive course notes that enable participants to immediately apply what they’ve learned.

The Melbourne course includes a visit to a working ship.
